24-year-old female with Class III malocclusion, anterior open bite, 1 mm overjet, mild-to-moderate maxillary and mandibular crowding, maxillary lateral incisors in crossbite, and tongue thrust. Dental midlines are coincident. Tooth #8 has a history of trauma and is restored with a discolored crown; #30 is root-canal treated.
The patient first presented at age 11 with a severe overbite and delayed eruption of her permanent canines. Her mother was hesitant about dental X-rays, so imaging had been deferred. When radiographs were ultimately obtained, tooth #27 was severely impacted horizontally near the apices of #25 and #26. With delayed detection, the canine became increasingly displaced and difficult to manage orthodontically, requiring a more complex surgical approach.
22-year-old male wants to close his 6mm anterior open bite. He can't eat well or bite into food and is self-conscious of how it looks when he talks. His back molars are wearing down and the dentin is starting to be exposed on the lower molars.
