SERVICES

Dr. Shen Garnett treats patients with the utmost quality and efficiency by utilizing the latest in cutting-edge orthodontic technology.  We treat children and adults of all ages and will work with you to design the best treatment plan for your needs. Our San Francisco practice services the Bay Area.

Traditional/Metal Braces

Metal braces, made of high grade stainless steel, remain the most popular choice for children and adolescents. The metal braces we are use are smaller and flatter making them more comfortable. Different colors can be chosen and changed at each visit.

Clear/Ceramic Braces

Translucent braces “blend in” with your teeth and are much less noticeable than metal. They are most popular with adult patients.

Invisalign

This relatively new approach straightens teeth with a series of clear, removable appliances called aligners. The devices are made of strong plastic, molded precisely to fit your mouth and can be taken out for cleaning.  Adults find this option appealing because the aligners are barely visible. Dr. Shen Garnett is an Invisalign Certified Orthodontist who currently teaches orthodontic treatment using Invisalign at the University of the Pacific Dental School.

Dental Facial Orthopedics and Functional Appliances

These fixed or removable appliances are used in growing children to balance the upper and lower jaws so they they fit better together. Expansion appliances increase the width of the jaw to create adequate space for the permanent teeth. Without such appliances, permanent teeth  may have to be extracted in the future to prevent crowding. Other removable appliances can also be worn at nights to maximize the growth of the upper jaw to prevent the development of an "under bite" or maximize the growth of the lower jaw to prevent the development of an "overbite."

Retainers

Retainers are made of acrylic, metal or clear plastic and are an essential part of orthodontic treatment. They stabilize the teeth in place as the bone and soft tissue reorganize and adapt to the position of your new straight teeth.  In some cases, permanent retainers are placed behind the teeth so that removable retainers are necessary only at night.
